I wrote this because I was thinking about how certain gedolim stories I heard, if they weren't gedolim people would say what they were doing was crazy and they were losing their marbles but because they were gedolim then everyone looked up to these stories. Just thinking about how thin the line can be between crazy and Gadol.
Kind of similar in secular society, if a poor person does something weird then he's a wacko but if a rich important person does the same thing then he's "eccentric".
The sefer chassidim makes this very point, that someone who jumps to do the things only a true chassid would do after years of avoda in other areas would be deemed a crazy person; madreigos only make sense in context of the whole picture of the person.
